About the design of this cross: The St. Olga-style Orthodox cross features the letters “IC” and “XC,” the traditional Greek abbreviation for JESUS CHRIST. “IC” are the first and last letters of ISOUS (Jesus), and “XC” are the first and last letters of CHRISTOS. The starburst symbol at the top front of the cross represents the Light of Christ and is shown above the engraved St. Andrew-style 3-bar cross. The Church Slavonic inscription (Spasi i Sohrani) on the matte-finished reverse side silently petitions: “Save and Protect.”
