Product Description

Illustrations by Nadja Glazunova After an orphaned girl in Old Russia walks deep into the forest to visit a hermit who prays for her brother's healing, she returns home to a wonderful sight. Old Russia comes to life in this tale of a poor orphan girl who braves the dangers of the deep forest to find healing for her crippled brother. The poetic text and colorful illustrations draw on their roots in the classic fairy-tale tradition to tell a story of the triumph of courage, faith, and love. A picture book for preschool and up. About the AuthorToday with his wife Anastasia he lives in Mexico, as an author, artist, and interpreter of Orthodoxy, traveling widely in Eastern Europe and organizing pilgrimages of mutual encouragement for others to experience Orthodoxy from the inside out. His other books include: Karelia: An Introduction to, and Meditation on, Karelian Orthodox Culture, Saint Sergius of Radonezh, The Miraculous Child, and How the Monastery Came to Be on Top of the Mountain. Illustrator Nadezda Glazunova began her artistic career in her native Russia by painting in a communist souvenir factory. Her obvious talent won her admission to the National College of Traditional and Folk Art.  Working with author Alvin Alexsi Currier, she illustrated her first book, The Miraculous Child, which was published in German and English in Vienna in 1995.
